Order of Time book series
Background
The brief for this project was to create a set of book cover designs for a series of books linked by the theme of time. Each cover had to link to the other in style but still have its own personality and reflect the themes in the individual book. My take on the designs was to create simple outcomes with careful consideration of type.
The Years - Virginia Woolf
This was the last book that was published while Virginia Woolf was alive. The deisgn of the cover highlights this. Each year she was alive is listed and the 50-year span
of the book is in bold red.Generation A - Douglas Coupland
There are 5 characters in the book who are all seemingly from different backgrounds but come together through their shared expereinces. There are also 5 vowels in
the word ‘Generation’. That’s why these vowels are made smaller than the rest of the word. The ‘A’ is slightly offset
to demonstrate all 5 coming together through their experiences. This design also leaves the uppercase letters to read ‘GNRTN’ which can still be read as ‘Generation’
and helps link to the digital themes within the book.
The Order of Time - Carlo Rovelli
This book is about challenging the readers own perception of what time is. I decided to also challenge what they expect from a book. The cover is back to front and upside down. It’s almost frustrating to work out and if it is placed on a shelf, with what is effectively the upside down back cover facing forward, it would create a perfect level
of intrigue and confusion for those who pick it up.
